What are ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes?

Last Updated March 14th, 2017

The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, usually called by the short-form name International Classification of Diseases (ICD), is the international standard diagnostic tool for epidemiology, health management and clinical purposes. Claims submitted for dates of service after 10/1/15 should utilize ICD-10 while dates of service prior to 10/1/15 should utilize ICD-9. Use of an improper ICD code may result in claim rejection. You can utilize PokitDok's ICD Convert endpoint to convert ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes.
